Fire and rescue response districts may be used in conjuction with other quality of life data to create information packages for use in economic development. This imformation is important to potential new businesses for identifying fire and rescue response districts and responding fire and rescue stations for both the site of the business and for potential employee habituation. Fire and rescue districts differ from fire districts and rescue districts in that fire and rescue districts operate as both fire and rescue. This data set was created in conjunction with the Department of Emergency Services. The Department of Emergency Services contacted individual localities and had them send the fire and rescue response district data to VEDP. Data was received in ESRI shapefile formats, ArcInfo export file format, CAD file format and as hard copy maps which were digitized in ArcView.
- Purpose:

The purpose of this dataset is to provide a geographic representation of the location of each fire and rescue response district in the state of Virginia. This data, combined with infrastructure, utility, environmental sensitivity, labor, demographics and quality of life data are used to select sites and buildings for industrial development based on a prospect's needs.

Fire and rescue response districts were digitzed from hard copy data sources on top of USGS DRGs. Quality assurance check maps will be made on top of DRGs and sent to PDCs for quality checks.
