Abstract:: Enterprise zone boundaries are important when creating information packages for economic development prospects. This coverage is useful with other business quality of life or environmental layers to help identify areas available for development that may benefit from certain tax advantages. This coverage is also used to identify sites and buildings available that are in an enterprise zone.
Purpose:: The purpose of this coverage is to provide a geopraphic representation of enterprise zones in Virginia localities and to identify development zones with tax incentives.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:: The Enterprise Zones coverage was initially digitized on DRGs. Hard copy maps were provided by localities that sent an application for an enterprise zone. Subsequent updates have been digitized using available aerial imagery, most recently images from the 2002 Virginia Base Mapping Program. Some localities also send digital data in the form of shapefiles or CAD files which are incorporated into VEDP's data layer.

Logical_Consistency_Report:

These data are logically consistent and topologically clean although no tests were performed. Points are positionally accurate.

Completeness_Report:

The original enterprise zone boundaries were approved by the research department within the Virginia Economic Development Partnership. Boundaries may change in the future and the coverage will be updated. Currently the Department of Housing and Community Development approves new and amended enterprise zone boundaries.

Shapefiles and/or hardcopy maps showing areas that have either qualified to become an enterprise zone or those that have been approved as new enterprise zones were added to the dataset and verified using DRGs and VBMP Imagery. Attribution was verified using online sources at the Department of Housing and Community Development. Editing to the versioned Enterprise Zones data is maintained through ArcSDE. Data is updated as enterprise zones are created or ammended and as needed.
