Description:

Abstract:: Aerial photography acts as an important tool in data analysis offering a view of the natural environment over a large spatial area. Aerial photography also plays a strong role in environmental and urban land use mapping. The USGS produces Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quads (DOQQs) which are scanned aerial photographs corrected for geometric distortion. DOQQs are labeled according to the USGS quadrangle grid for the state of Virginia. The image is named according to the latitude and longitude coordinates of the USGS Quadrangle grid and the geographic quadrant of the grid in which its located. The DOQQ grid created by VEDP indicates the availability of the DOQQ, whether the DOQQ exists as a black and white or a color infra-red image, the date the image was flown, and the VEDP CD on which the image is stored.
Purpose:: The purpose of this data set is to provide a geographic index with which to catalogue, track, and query available black and white and color infra-red DOQQs for the state of Virginia.

Attribute_Accuracy_Report:: The Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangle Grid is an original dataset generated at VEDP by ESRI's ArcInfo software. Much of the attribute information (name, number, etc) was created for the grid from the USGS quad grid. DOQQs were then displayed from CD onto the DOQQ grid and county boundary map of Virginia. Quarter quadrangle name and number from the CD were matched to quarter quadrangle name and number in the DOQQ grid attribute table. CD number was then added to the DOQQ grid attribute table.
