Abstract:
Rescue response districts may be used in conjunction with other quality of life data to create information packages for use in economic development. This information is important to potential new businesses for identifying rescue response districts and responding rescue stations for both the site of the business and for potential employee habitation. This data set was created in conjunction with the Department of Emergency Services. The Department of Emergency Services contacted individual localities and had them send the fire response district data to VEDP. Data was received in ESRI shapefile formats, ArcInfo export file format, CAD file format and as hard copy maps which were digitized in ArcView and ArcGIS.
Purpose:
The purpose of this dataset is to provide a geographic representation of the location of each rescue response district in the state of Virginia. This data, combined with infrastructure, utility, environmental sensitivity, labor, demographics and quality of life data are used to select sites and buildings for industrial deelopment based on a prospect's needs.

Hard copy maps were digitized in ArcGIS on top of USGS DRGs. ArcInfo export files, shapefiles and CAD files were imported into ArcInfo covers, reprojected into the Partnership's projection and put into the fire and rescue response district coverage.
