Abstract:
Virginia Workforce Development Centers, a part of the Virginia Community College System, provide custom off-site employee training. The centers are good resources for existing businesses and can be contributing factors for businesess considering moving to a region. The layer contains general location and identification attributes as well as a point of contact for each center. The layer was developed using source data from the Virginia Department of Business Assistance. The spatial features (points) in this layer are accurate to approximately a "city block" level.
Purpose:
The purpose of this dataset is to provide a geographic representation of the location of each Workforce Development Center in the state of Virginia. This data, combined with infrastructure, utility, environmental sensitivity, labor, demographics and quality of life data are used to select sites and buildings for industrial deelopment based on a prospect's needs.

The physical address data was used to geocode the locations using the Centrus geocoder. Records that could not be geocoded (perhaps because of incomplete address information) were located using a variety of other methods including phone conversations with center staff. The location of the points is believed to be accurate to the "city block" level of detail. Data will be updated as needed.
